"The Lost Boys of Sudan" Film and Discussion

Monday Feb 6 6:30pm
Herrick District Library
300 South River Avenue

In collaboration with the Herrick District Library, the Holland International Relations Commission presents the first film of a quarterly series on immigration in the United States," Lost Boys of Sudan".

This Emmy-nominated documentary, directed by Megan Mylan and Jon Shenk, “follows two Sudanese refugees on an extraordinary journey from Africa to America. Orphaned as young boys in one of Africa’s cruelest civil wars, Peter Dut and Santino Chuor survived lion attacks and militia gunfire to reach a refugee camp in Kenya along with thousands of other children. From there, remarkably, they were chosen to come to America. Safe at last from physical danger and hunger, a world away from home, they find themselves confronted with the abundance and alienation of contemporary American suburbia.”

After the film, former Sudanese refugees Rebecca Deng and Deng Jongkuch will discuss their own journeys that brought them to West Michigan, and their lives here. For more information on the documentary, visit www.lostboysfilm.com.
