Jazz Concert - "Lush Life" the Music of Billy StrayhornSaturday Oct 8 7:30pm

The unique jazz duo of local vibraphonist Jim Cooper and Cincinnati pianist Phil Burkhead will be in concert at the Arts Council. The concert will spotlight the music of Billy Strayhorn as well as selections from Dave Brubeck and new, original music. Cooper and Bulkhead teach each summer at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camps. They hit it off both musically and personally–finding a common love for the the music of Billy Strayhorn. The two plan to record a CD in October, recognizing Strayhorn’s centenary.
Billy Strayhorn holds an iconic place in the history of 20th century jazz. He was a composer, pianist, lyricist and arranger who collaborated with bandleader/composer, Duke Ellington for nearly three decades. He is best known for his compositions, “Take the A Train”, “Chelsea Bridge”, and “Lush Life”.
The concert starts at 7:30 pm. Spirits will be available at a cash bar.
