Holland Friends of Art Spring Show

Friday May 5
Holland Area Arts Council
150 E. 8th Street

May 4 – June 3
Lievense Gallery
Opening Reception: Thursday, May 4, 6-8 pm

It’s time for the Spring Art Show! Every year Holland Friends of Art (HFA) members bring in 1 or 2 pieces of artwork to submit for display in the Spring and during Tulip Time. It’s an opportunity for the community and the organization to display the high quality of local talent for the large groups of people who visit the Arts Council during this time of the year.

This year, local artist and educator Lee Ann Frame will be the juror. Lee Ann lives where she was born and reared, near the shores of Lake MI. She is the founder of Norris Creek Printmaking Studio and currently teaches at Muskegon Community College. Lee Ann’s formal art education began at Grand Valley State University, MI (BFA) and at Kendall College of Art and Design, Michigan (MFA).

“As a printmaker, I find sanctuary in nature, my most common theme–and the indelible marks of daily life subconsciously come through in my prints. Occasionally I begin a plate working directly from nature, then resolve it in the studio, attempting to retain the spontaneity and freshness of patterns and textures that lured me out of the studio. In my other prints one can easily see common objects take on new meaning, a marble that holds a landscape, a marble bag that is posturing like a figure. Once the first mark is made, it becomes a collaboration between myself and the plate. Layers, surface textures evolve, irregularity and imperfections–like life, eventually find meaning and place. I work in hand pulled multi-print media techniques of intaglio, woodblock, and lithography.”
