Cultural Lens Series: Yas Queen! The History of Drag
Thursday Jun 22 7:00pm – 8:30pm31 West 10th Street
What is a drag show? What does it mean to be a drag artist? Who is the target audience? There are a lot of questions about drag performance floating around in the media and in our communities today. Join us on June 22nd as Kate Leighton-Colburn, Executive Director at Out on the Lakeshore, will answer some of these questions, and to learn more about the history of drag on an international, national, and local level.
Kate Leighton-Colburn is a proud Holland native and Hope College graduate. She currently serves as Executive Director at Out On The Lakeshore (OOTL), Holland’s LGBTQ+ Community Center and Pride org. She spent 6 years working at The Door – A Center for Alternatives, a youth development agency and community center in New York City where she ran LGBTQ+ and youth engagement programming. She moved back to Holland in late 2022 to start her work with OOTL. She and her wife Marly live in the Lakeshore area with their dog and cat.
