Day Trip to Historic Idlewild, Michigan
Saturday Sep 23 8:00am – 7:45pm31 W 10th Street, Holland, MI 49423
On our arrival, our host and Idlewild historian, CJ Grier will welcome us to the historic resort that provided refuge as well as relaxation to middle- and upper-class blacks such as Louis Armstrong, Madam CJ Walker, and Dr. Daniel Hale Williams, who had the financial means for vacation travel but were denied access to other resorts and beaches due to racial segregation. Idlewild provided a place where African Americans could enjoy the outdoors, as well as excellent entertainment. Our welcome will also include a viewing of the film, “Welcome to Idlewild – The Black Eden,” as well as a “Idlewild Welcome” gift that includes a souvenir post card and information about the history of Idlewild.
